October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month!

Cybersecurity threats are regularly in the news, but CHTS knows how to guard against them! October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and we’ve put together 5 tips to help you stay secure and turn away the bad guys looking to steal your data:

  1. Guard Your Login Credentials - Don’t enter your credentials unless you are certain an app or website is genuine and secure.

  2. Use Multi-Factor Authentication - MFA requires multiple forms of ID, such as a password and a code sent to a smartphone. Using MFA means cybercriminals will have a harder time gaining access to your data, even if your password is compromised.

  3. Use a Password Manager – How can you remember those long, complex passwords for all your online accounts? A password manager allows you to securely store your passwords and can even generate complex passwords for you.

  4. Avoid Oversharing on Social Media – Social Media accounts can be useful, but cybercriminals recognize they are a treasure trove of personal data. Watch out for subtle ways your data is gathered, such as games or quizzes that ask for personal details.

  5. Be Aware of Data Tracking - When you create an account or use a service, read the organization’s privacy policy to learn what personal data will be collected and who your data will be shared with.

Now it’s time to test your knowledge in a mini-game: Enter The Danger Zone here and see if you have what it takes to beat the hacker!
